Modernizing The Interior Of An Older Home With White Walls And Trim Work

With some effort this nearly 30 year old home was transformed into a more modern style. New flooring, kitchen countertops, lighting and hiring us to do a complete paint job has completely changed the look.

We had our work cut out for us. The walls and trim work were in rough shape. The home had suffered with numerous poorly done paint jobs. Wall colour was on areas of the trim work and up into the ceilings. There were portions of the walls with thick runs of paint. We spent days patching and sanding the walls and trim that were riddled with gouges, scratches and holes.

The previous colours were dark blues and grays. The owner wanted a fresh, airy look so they chose a soft white colour for the walls. For a bit of a contrast we went with a slightly brighter white for the trim work and doors. To break up a bit of the white a greige feature wall was painted at the top of the stairwell and in a portion of the entry and throughout the kitchen. What a difference!

A Large Open Concept Living Area Changes From Beige To White

After renovating the kitchen and updating the fireplace it became obvious to the owner that a colour change was needed. We were hired to paint the beige walls in the same warm white colour as the trim work.

White is not the right choice for every space, but in this case it works. If you donโ€™t have a lot of natural light a room painted white can look lifeless.

Thereโ€™s a lot going on in this large open concept space. Your eyes get distracted with the colour difference between the walls and the trim work. With everything painted in the same colour it has made many aspects recede and given a sense of calm.

On the large window walls the white allows your eyes to be immediately drawn to the views of the ocean and nature outside.

The white walls give the opposite effect with the fireplace. The rock was competing with the previous beige walls, and now the fireplace stands out like the feature it should be.

The view from the entry is stylish and welcoming.

The customer is thrilled with the new crisp, fresh and updated look.

A Main Floor Colour Change To Gray Owl

This home is only a few years old, but the owners wanted to change the original colours that were picked by the builder. We were first hired to change the dark walls of a room in the downstairs to a light grey colour to brighten it up. We were hired again when they were ready to paint the upper level of the home.

The owners wanted to have a light and airy feeling throughout the home.  This was accomplished by getting rid of the dark eggplant walls and painting out the spaces with a light colour called Gray Owl.

Painting over the burgundy walls in the hallway and kitchen eliminated the heavy feeling.

To add a bit of interest in the kitchen the pantry door was painted a smoky blue colour.

The master bedroom had taupe colour walls with a pink undertone. We painted them in the same light grey colour and the owner requested a dark blue feature wall. The room looks very modern and classy. We had a little painting buddy who acted as supervisor for the project.

More photos of the completed spaces.

A Main Living Area Colour Change To Silver Satin

The new owners of this house had just recently moved in. They were happy with some of the neutral coloured rooms, but other areas were painted with a colour that had a strong yellow undertone. They wanted those rooms to be changed to something more current. They chose a light gray called Silver Satin to use throughout the kitchen, eating area, entry, hallway, stairwell and upper landing. The powder room was changed to a soft blue colour.

Changing A Town House Interior From Brown To Modern Grays And Blues

The new owners of this townhouse pulled out the flooring and the baseboards and trim work. They had us paint the ceilings and walls prior to moving in. They will be doing some further renovations and putting in new trim work afterwards.

The open concept living area was originally painted in a dark brown colour. The new colour the owners chose was a light gray with a blue undertone.

The master bedroom changed from yellow to a gray with a slight mauve undertone.

The main bathroom changed from yellow to the same gray used in the master bedroom.

The ensuite bath was changed from a pumpkin colour to a rich blue.

The walls were in need of an extreme amount of patching and sanding. It took a great deal of effort with powered palm sander to remove the murals from the spare bedroom walls.  The hearts were sitting on the walls as a thick layer of paint. We thought they were the only murals, but as we started to sand we realized an older mural of trees and branches was in a previous paint layer. This is a good example of why itโ€™s better to us non-destructive removable wall decals to decorate a childโ€™s room. The owners chose a silvery gray for us to repaint the room in.

A Pop Of Colour And Contrast For A New Townhouse

The walls throughout this new townhouse were painted white. The owners had us paint a dark charcoal gray on various walls as an accent. The stark contrast works well in their modern space.

Repainting The Interior Of A West Coast Style Home In A Warm White

The new owners of this west coast style home hired us to repaint prior to their move in. The hardwood flooring and kitchen were being replaced so it made sense to have us do the painting after they were ripped out and prior to the new installations.

They wanted to change the yellow walls of the main living area and loft to a neutral modern look. They choose a subtle light grey colour.

A Penthouse Condo Interior Colour Change

The new owner of this luxury condo was able to have us paint it prior to moving in. Many of the walls were a vivid orange and green colour which was not the taste of our client. Being that blue was their favourite colour we painted the main open concept living and dining area in a soft blue colour along with the master bedroom, ensuite and walk in closet. The entry area, hallways, main bathroom, kitchen, eating nook, family room and spare bedroom were painted in a light warm off white colour.

Adding Colour And Warmth To White Walls In An Inlaw Suite

The owner of this new in-law suite wasn’t comfortable with the white walls. A grey accent wall was painted during the initial construction, but after moving in she realized the space still felt too stark. We were hired to paint the rest of the main living space in the same warm grey colour. It was carried through the living room, dining area, kitchen and down the stairwell.

Although white walls can work in certain situations, this didn’t seem to be one of them. You can see the difference between the before and after photos below. Using the grey colour on all the walls has warmed up the space.

The master bedroom originally had white walls and one turquoise feature wall. The owner wanted to add some colour to the white walls so we used a very light version of the turquoise colour on them.

A Slight Colour Change Of A Nanoose Townhouse Interior

The new owners of this high end Nanoose townhouse don’t mind green, but they didn’t like the particular hue of green that it was painted. It had a gold undertone. They chose a more neutral green and had us paint in throughout the open concept living room, dining area and kitchen and the connecting hallway and entry area. All they needed to do was move in their furniture and start enjoying the beautiful views.
